As its presence in Sub-Saharan Africa becomes increasingly prominent, UK-based consultancy Mace has received a boost for business in the form of a contract with Airport Company South Africa (ACSA), which involves three improvement projects in two of the South Africa’s most prominent airports.
Based out of London, Mace is a global consulting firm that finds its area of expertise in the construction domain. Since its establishment in 1990, the firm has grown to employ nearly 4,500 employees worldwide. Mace has offices around the world, including the major financial centres of New York, Hong Kong and Dubai, and generates revenues in excess of $2 billion.
As a strategy for international expansion, the firm has relied on partnerships with “niche consultancies” that are well-reputed in their regional markets, which led them to sign a partnership with a South African firm MMQS in 2013. A construction management firm, MMQS offered Mace a foothold in the market across Sub-Saharan Africa, subsequently bolstered by the signing of another strategic partnership with Kenyan consultancy YMR.
Now, leveraging their strong combined force, MMQSMace has won a major project to renovate two of South Africa’s most prominent airports, namely the OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg and the Cape Town International Airport. The contract has been awarded by ACSA – the proprietors of nearly all the major airports in South Africa.
