Project Overview
Kimberley to De Aar Rail Upgrade
Signalling upgrade of the Kimberley/De Aar main railway line, to provide the latest in train controlling systems technology to meet the high volume of traffic on the route. A total of 110 new signals and 79 new points machines were installed along the line to ensure the maximum
functionality and safety of goods and passenger trains. The new signals are controlled by thirteen containerised hybrid HRS interlockings – a combination of PLC’s and relays to process instructions via the electronic signalling circuitry – to ensure the safe routing of train traffic on the line. The movement of trains along the line is monitored by Siemens’ axle counters, with a total of 160 installed along the route.
